ENLARGED BREASTS IN A BOY (PUBERTAL GYNAECOMASTIA)

It is the commonest problem with male breast

Can be present at birth, but usually takes importance at puberty.
Majority of cases have no known cause (Idiopathic)
Can be due to excess of female hormone Oestrogen
Occasionally it is associated with other diseases such as testicular failure either congenital or due to tumour or cirrhosis of liver

The breast enlarge and may become painful, but more often children get embarrassed
In most of the children reassurance and simple painkiller is all that is needed.
In a significant majority it is self limiting and does not need any treatment
If painful, persistent and embarrassing, the tissue can be removed by a day surgery operation...
