Hydrocoele Repair

A hydrocoele is a collection of fluid around the testis. It presents as a painless swelling in the scrotum.

It is mostly congenital (present at birth) usually in boys aged 1-2 years of age.
Most of these resolve by the end of the first year of life.

If it persists, it can be corrected surgically by a day case operation under general anaesthesia.

PATENT PROCESSES VAGINALIS

Some parents may notice that one side of their child’s scrotum is small in the morning hen the child wakes up, but is swollen like a balloon, by the end of the day. This is due to a condition called Patent Processes vaginalis, in which the covering of the testis is connected to the abdomen. Normally this connection is meant to close at birth. This is a form of hernia and should be corrected surgically, by a day case operation under general anaesthesia.
